Residents displaced after overnight apartment fire in northwest OKC

People are without a place to stay because of a fire that sparked late Sunday night at an apartment complex in northwest Oklahoma City. The fire started around 11:40 p.m. at a complex in the 2900 block of Northwest 28th Street, which is near May Avenue. When firefighters arrived, they found heavy flames coming from the roof of a two-story apartment building.

Oklahoma City Fire Department officials said the fire started in an upstairs unit and extended into an attic. The incident caused significant smoke and fire damage to all upstairs apartments. Fourteen units in the building were evacuated, fire department officials said. No injuries were reported, and firefighters found several dogs inside who are safe. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The Oklahoma City Fire Department estimates that the fire caused $380,000 in damage.
