VIDEO: After the Turley Fire and Rescue put out a request for assistance, local fire departments have stepped up to donate gear. On Friday, Turley Fire posted on Facebook that the department is in urgent need of bunker gear for its firefighters. As a volunteer department, Turley Fire operates solely on fire dues and has no additional funds. Turley Fire said it is a Title 18 department, which limits the resources available. It asked if any department has extra gear, or if organizations may be able to assist.
On Saturday, Turley Fire thanked the public for its support in sharing the post and spreading the word. The department said it is scheduled to meet with several fire department who are stepping forward to help provide the gear.
The department said on Facebook:
“Words cannot fully capture how thankful we are for this outpouring of kindness. The fire service has always been built on brotherhood, sisterhood, and community and this moment is a true reminder of that. To see departments, neighbors, and friends rally around us in our time of need shows the very heart of what it means to serve and to stand together.
To the fire service family and to the Turley community: thank you for believing in us, for helping us stay safe while we protect others, and for showing us what true support looks like. We are humbled, encouraged, and incredibly grateful.”
The Fountainhead Area Improvement Council (FAIC) Fire Department in McIntosh County posted on Saturday it met with Turley Fire and donated gear.
“We have received a ton of help over the years and we are very thankful that the departments that have helped us have helped make it to where we can start returning the favor! Keep up the good work Turley Fire & Rescue and don’t lose sight on your goals! I enjoyed getting to spend some time this morning with the crew that was at the station. Thanks for showing me around and having us,” FAIC Fire said on Facebook.
