Geneva-on-the-Lake Fire Chief Christopher Craft has died, the department confirmed Thursday afternoon. Officials announced Craft’s passing in a post to Facebook, mourning him as a man “who devoted his life to protecting and serving our community with unwavering commitment, courage, and integrity.” A cause of death was not given.
“Chief Craft led with strength, compassion, and a deep sense of duty,” the department stated, while also posting an image of the Geneva-on-the-Lake fire and rescue logo featuring a black mourning band. “His leadership, mentorship, and selfless service have left a lasting impact not only on our department, but on the countless lives he touched throughout his career.”
Craft spent the last 25 years of his life as a firefighter, and previously served as assistant chief in Geneva-on-the-Lake under Tim Mills. He was promoted to chief in 2020 following Mills’ retirement. “Our hearts are with his family, friends, and the entire fire service community during this incredibly difficult time,” the department wrote on Facebook. “Rest easy, Chief. We’ll take it from here.” Funeral arrangements for Craft have not been made public.
