Ottawa Hosts Firefighter Convention for Northwest Ohio

VIDEO/PHOTO: The Northwest Ohio Volunteer Firemen’s Association Firefighterโ€™s Convention kicked off on Friday, with the Ottawa Volunteer Fire Department hosting this yearโ€™s event. The two-day convention began with the Queenโ€™s Contest and continued into the evening with a fire truck cruise and a performance from Wastin’ Neon Band. The annual convention provides an opportunity for both the fire department and the community to come together.

“It’s really bringing us together. That’s the main thing behind the whole convention. Is just bringing people together one time a year and enjoying each other’s company and learning what’s new in the last year. I mean, we’re a volunteer fire department, so if we don’t have the public support, we wouldn’t be a department overall. And we have a lot of other businesses and organizations that have helped bring this whole weekend together, so it’s really a community event in the end,” said Nathan Cram, fire chief of the Ottawa Volunteer Fire Department.
