Orphan oil well explosion in Washington County injures 6; 4 taken by helicopter to hospital

VIDEO: Six people were injured in an explosion at an orphan oil well in Washington County Monday morning. According to Reno Volunteer Fire Department Chief John Bradford four of those injuries were taken by helicopter for their injuries. He does not know which hospital they were taken to or the extent of their injuries.

The individuals hurt were workers on the well, according to Bradford. He says equipment was damaged during the explosion. Bradford says Reno fire was toned out around 11:51 a.m. and the fire was put out within an hour of them being called out. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Oil and Gas Resources Management says the oil well was in Independence Township in Wayne National Forest. Firefighters used water and fire extinguishers to put out the fire, according to Bradford. He says there was fantastic cooperation between the various fire departments and their crews.
