Ohio Fire Academy welcomes newest class of graduates

The third and final firefighter class from the Ohio Department of Commerce Division of State Fire Marshal’s (SFM’s) Ohio Fire Academy has graduated. Class 242 was comprised of 35 individuals, who were recognized at a graduation ceremony late last week.

The class successfully completed both the academic and physical requirements of the 10-week, 468-hour program. Through the program, students can earn eight additional certificates besides their Firefighter I & II state certifications.

They also learned skills including professionalism, leadership, teamwork, honor, firefighter safety, emergency vehicle operation and apparatus pumping. Officials said throughout 2025, there were 106 individuals from around Ohio and neighboring states who graduated from the Firefighter I & II class.

Among them were 34 volunteers, who could attend the academy at no cost to them or their department. Fees for volunteers have been waived since 2023.
