VIDEO: Fighting fire in subzero temperatures on Monday, multiple departments battled an early morning fire involving a local business. Just around 4:30 a.m., crews got on scene as fire broke out in the appliance section building of Prestige Home Furnishings on the 2800 block of South Dixie Drive.
“We had some smoke showing. Initially they made entry to do an offensive fire attack. Unfortunately due to access and just the way the building was presented to us we had to switch to a defensive strategy,” said Brett Davenport, battalion chief with Kettering Fire Department.
Fire crews say the section of the building is a total loss, but say the fire was contained to that building. Some close exposure buildings didn’t receiving any fire damage. The biggest challenge Davenport says for crews was the bitter cold.
