VIDEO: Two residents and three first responders were honored Tuesday night for their heroic actions during recent emergencies in Brook Park. Two residents were recognized for their quick response when a fire broke out at a home on Holland Road, where a child was trapped. Jerome Rienerth saw the fire and rushed to the scene. As he was helping, he noticed a young child was on an elevated back porch with no stairs and alerted others.
Another man John Fumich, was driving when he saw the fire, stopped, and was able to reach the child and get them to safety. Rienerth remained at the scene to provide care, comfort, and support to the family until further emergency support arrived,โ according to the recognition.
โMr. Fumichโs swift response, courage, and selfless dedication exemplified the highest civic duty,โ officials said.
Three members of the Brook Park Fire Department were also honored. Captain David McCarthy, Firefighter/Paramedic Matthew DโAureli, and Firefighter/Paramedic Bradley Polash were all called in for staffing coverage while the department battled the blaze. They helped Middleburgh Heights with a call, providing life-saving assistance to a man in cardiac arrest.
