VIDEO: Fire crews from several Stark County cities battled an apartment fire at the Maple Wayview Apartments in Jackson Township on Saturday. According to Jackson Township Fire Chief Timothy G. Berczik, fire crews responded to calls of a building fire at the two-story apartment building at approximately 4:56 p.m. Firefighters were able to control the fire and eventually extinguish shortly after arriving.
Fire Chief Berczik said the fire originated in the kitchen of one of the apartments. The occupants of the apartment were not home at the time, but lost at least three pets (2 dogs, 1 cat) to the fire. One cat remains missing.
Those in nearby apartments were able to evacuate safely. No injures were reported, however Berczik estimated the flames caused $80,000 in structure and contents damage.
