Fire chief: 1 killed, another injured in Madison County fire

One person is dead and another is injured following a house fire in Madison County on Thursday, fire chief Dave Whiting told 10TV.

Firefighters with the Pleasant Township Fire Department were called to a home on Pringle Benjamin Road, east of London, just after 11 a.m. on a report of an explosion, Whiting said.

Whiting said there were two people inside the home at the time of the fire. One person was reportedly killed and the other was injured and taken to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.

Whiting also said that a passerby cut his arm after climbing a ladder to help. Alex Savchenko, who was working next door laying flooring, said he heard a loud boom.

โ€œItโ€™s just terrifying,โ€ Savchenko said. โ€œAt first I thought it was my music, but I was like no way because the windows rattled. So I grabbed my phone and I run outside and I see the house next to me billowing black smoke.โ€

Savchenko said he called 911, and others did too. Whiting said strong winds made the fire difficult to contain. โ€œWhen you have a wind-driven fire, itโ€™s next to impossible โ€” even if we were right here โ€” to put it out very easily,โ€ Whiting said.
