VIDEO: A fire caused $250,000 in damages to a home in the city’s St. Clair Superior neighborhood late Wednesday. Flames broke out around 11 p.m. in the 1000 block of Ansel Rd.
Cleveland firefighters said they had been at the house earlier in the day for a small fire involving a hot water tank in the basement. According to firefighters, a short in the electrical system energized the ground wire attached to the water line.
Firefighters pulled the electrical meter, but said there may have still been electricity feeding through the bad ground wire. When firefighters returned around 11 p.m., the fire was on the second and third floors of the house and going through the roof. Firefighters said the house was too badly damaged by the second fire to determine a cause, but it appears to be accidental.
