Ambulance station opens in Youngstown to improve response times

VIDEO: Thereโ€™s a new purpose for an old fire station in Youngstown. A local ambulance company bought the defunct space with the goal of expanding. On Monday morning, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at the corner of Oak and Fruit streets for a new private ambulance station. EMT Ambulance will now be located inside the former Fire Station 2. Itโ€™s the companyโ€™s third space.

โ€œIt was a good location for us to be able to get the houses in this area quickly,โ€ said CEO Ken Joseph. โ€œIt was also unused. It was surplus to the city so it worked out well.โ€ EMT bought the site, which was chosen to improve response times for the cityโ€™s East and North sides, about a year ago.

โ€œHim having this station is going to improve the response times to this part of the cityโ€ฆtremendously,โ€ said Youngstown Fire Chief Barry Finley. Old Fire Station 2 hasnโ€™t been used as a fire station since 1980, when it shut down. City and EMT leaders say theyโ€™re glad itโ€™s being used to help people again.
