Citizens Fire Academy gives residents a glimpse into firefighter life with the Washington Township FD

VIDEO: Schools are about to be in session, but a totally different learning experience will be available for some residents in the Dublin area. Washington Township wants neighbors to step into the gear and get a firsthand look at what it means to be a firefighter and see how they train to keep your family safe. Itโ€™s the Citizens Fire Academy.

โ€œWe have to be prepared and we want the citizens to understand the job we do,โ€ said Fire Chief John Donahue of the Washington Township Fire Department. This is a chance to experience real firefighter training. โ€œFrom a safety standpoint, that they can go back home and make their lives safer,โ€ said Donahue about his number one goal for the program. โ€œNumber two, that they have a better appreciation of the public safety services that we provide to our community.โ€ Donahue said he is especially excited to welcome the next academy class after voters supported Washington Townshipโ€™s fire levy earlier this year. He sees this program as a chance for residents to see that levy in action.
