Canton firefighters searching for victims after boarded up apartment building goes up in flames

VIDEO: A boarded up Canton apartment building went up in flames late Wednesday and firefighters are searching for possible victims. When firefighters arrived at the three-story building in the 700 block of 5th St NE just after 11 p.m., there was heavy fire coming from the second and third floors.

Division Chief Steve Henderson said bystanders told firefighters several people were on the third floor; however, an interior search was not possible because of the amount of fire. Rooms were searched from ladders outside the building.

According to Division Chief Henderson, about an hour after crews were battling the fire, one man exited the first floor of the building. Medics tried to evacuate him, but he screamed expletives at them and fled, said Division Chief Henderson. His condition is not known.
