A man was rescued from the Tuscarawas River Sunday morning after reportedly being in the water overnight, the Canal Fulton – Lawrence Township Fire Department said. Firefighters and EMS were dispatched at 7:27 a.m. to the area near Coach House Floral, following a report from a couple walking the Towpath Trail. The couple said they found the man in the river who had allegedly been in the water overnight.
Crews arrived on scene within three minutes and located the man within five minutes. Using rope rescue equipment and sending a firefighter into the water, responders safely removed the individual and provided medical care. He was transported to a hospital at 8:07 a.m. “With overnight low temperatures in the 50s, extended exposure to the water created a serious risk of hypothermia. The quick recognition by the callers, Regional Emergency Dispatch Center (RED Center) dispatchers, Canal Fulton Police (Ohio), combined with the training, preparedness, and decisive actions of our firefighters, was critical in bringing this incident to a successful outcome,” said officials in a Facebook post.
