Boardman Fire Crews Train at Market Street Building

VIDEO: Boardman firefighters were at the old Caffe Capri on Market Street on Wednesday as part of an ongoing training session. The crews practiced their life-saving skills all week at the building, which is now owned by #1 Cochran. Cochran Chevy, which now owns the building, gave permission to Boardman firefighters to make use of the site for training.

This week, theyโ€™ve been gaining experience in roof ventilation techniques, cutting into the wooden roof with chain saws, to not only simulate a real fire situation, but also to be more comfortable up high like that with all their gear.

โ€œToday, weโ€™re doing roof operations, teaching some of our new firefighters how to ventilate a structure,โ€ said fire Chief Mark Pitzer. โ€œItโ€™s a great opportunity for them to get comfortable working on roofs.โ€
