VIDEO: Boardman firefighters were at the old Caffe Capri on Market Street on Wednesday as part of an ongoing training session. The crews practiced their life-saving skills all week at the building, which is now owned by #1 Cochran. Cochran Chevy, which now owns the building, gave permission to Boardman firefighters to make use of the site for training.
This week, theyโve been gaining experience in roof ventilation techniques, cutting into the wooden roof with chain saws, to not only simulate a real fire situation, but also to be more comfortable up high like that with all their gear.
โToday, weโre doing roof operations, teaching some of our new firefighters how to ventilate a structure,โ said fire Chief Mark Pitzer. โItโs a great opportunity for them to get comfortable working on roofs.โ
