Williston High School’s firefighting course a success in first year

VIDEO: The Williston Basin Career and Technical Education Center provides a variety of opportunities for high school students, including those who want to be firefighters. Four students completed the inaugural firefighting class, which provides certifications to prepare them for the future. Instructor Lt. Josh Larson said it’s a big accomplishment for students to be able to complete this.

“That’s so impressive. There are guys that try to get into fire departments until they’re 30 years old with no luck. Graduating through the fire program doesn’t necessarily mean you’re automatically hired, but it gives them the skills and the knowledge and requirements for any fire department in the state,” said Larson.

Larson said the class pairs well with the EMT course that provides first responder education. He said he hopes to provide the class again this fall.
