Williston Fire Department responds to smoke smell at local medical center

On Sunday, August 24, the Williston Fire Department was called to CHI St. Alexius โ€“ Williston Medical Center for a report of a smoke-like smell. According to the fire department, the call came in around 4:40 p.m. with the report of a smell that was similar to electrical smoke after a popping sound came from the Emergency Department.

The first engine arrived at 4:46 p.m., and crews entered the hospital and identified a malfunction in an HVAC unit above the Emergency Department, causing the smell of smoke. Crews were able to isolate the power to the area and helped with ventilation. There was no active fire. CHI St. Alexius implemented emergency operations to relocate all Emergency Department operations to another area temporarily. The department is still open and accepting patients in the temporary location.
