Prayer breakfast in Bismarck raises funds for first responders

VIDEO: On Tuesday morning, about 150 people gathered at the Radisson Hotel in downtown Bismarck for the 2025 Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast. The event raised money for Crisis Care Chaplaincy, a nonprofit that provides emotional and spiritual care to first responders and community members during life’s worst moments — things like sudden deaths, suicides, car crashes, and house fires.

The event began over 20 years ago during former Mayor John Warford’s administration. Since then, every Bismarck mayor has carried on the tradition. This year, City of Bismarck Mayor Mike Schmitz served as host. “Crisis Care Chaplaincy provides a crucial need every day in our community,” Schmitz said. “These chaplains help people navigate grief and foster healing. I’m proud to support them.”

The money raised will support the organization’s only full-time staff member and a team of 13 volunteer chaplains. According to Crisis Care Chaplaincy Chaplain Greg Carr, the funding helps train chaplains, provide uniforms and resources, and keep them available around the clock.
