The Minot Fire Department extinguished an outdoor fire that started Sunday morning, despite a car blocking access to the hydrant. According to the MFD, Sunday morning at aboutย 2:34 a.m., firefighters responded to an outdoor fire on the 600 block of 7th St SW in Minot that beganย spreading toward a nearby home.
Firefighters began extinguishing a large pile of burning materials, while a second unit was instructed to connect a hydrant line to the engine. Because the only available hydrant was blocked by a parked car, crews could not access the hydrant and had to transfer water from another truck.
Despite the delay, the fire was extinguished without injury. The owner of the carย was cited for blocking the hydrant. The MFD reminds people that parking in front of or too close to a fire hydrant can delay emergency response and put lives and property at risk. Hydrants should be kept clear at all times so firefighters can act quickly to put out a blaze if one were to start.
