North Dakota officials urge caution after multiple crashes with snowplows

PHOTO/VIDEO: Snow, ice and wind are back, and along with that, law enforcement has been dealing with crashes and cars in ditches. On Interstate 94 in Fargo, there were a number of accidents on Thursday, Feb. 6. The weather is still blustery and freezing, and the roads remain slick. WDAY News spoke with Fargo Public Works and the North Dakota Department of Transportation, and officials at both agencies had the same message — while they are clearing the roads, they need more space. “If you come up to a truck and they’re plowing and there’s a heavy snow fog, just stay back,” said Kent Leysring, Highway Maintenance Superintendent with NDDOT. This winter, NDDOT has reported seven crashes between its plows and other vehicles on the roads. That includes one incident in western North Dakota on Wednesday, Feb. 5, when a semi-truck attempted to pass a plow, crashed into it, and flipped it — seriously injuring the driver.
