Four days, one stubborn cat: Dickinson firefighters pull off purr-fect rescue

After four days of meows, missed attempts, and mounting concern, a local cat stranded in a tree was safely rescued by Dickinson firefighters โ€” ending a tense and furry standoff that drew attention from neighbors and passersby.

Crews responded to the scene earlier this week and spent several days trying to coax the feline down. Despite using treats, a ladder truck, and plenty of patience, the cat refused to cooperate. Firefighters eventually succeeded with a mix of persistence and teamwork.

โ€œIt wasnโ€™t glamorous,โ€ the department said. โ€œBut weโ€™re officially 1โ€“0 against gravity and feline stubbornness in 2025.โ€ The cat was unharmed and, according to firefighters, not particularly grateful. โ€œNot every call is fire and fury,โ€ the department added. โ€œSometimes, itโ€™s fur and frustration.โ€

Officials thanked the neighborhood for its support โ€” and for not posting videos of the failed attempts. They also had one final request: โ€œTo the tree โ€” please donโ€™t grow any taller.โ€
