The Grand Forks Fire Department responded to an aviation gas spill near the Grand Forks International Airport on Saturday. According to the Grand Forks Fire Department, crews were dispatched to the scene of an aviation gas tanker accident at 2475 Airport Dr. just after 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 12.
Fire officials say the accident caused a โsubstantialโ leak near the back of the tanker. Crews quickly found AVGAS was spilling out of the vehicleโs ventilation stack, but the tank was not damaged. Grand Forks Fire says they worked to contain the spill and prevent ignition while a towing company safely lifted the tanker back to an upright position. During the incident, approximately 200-500 gallons of fuel spilled from the tanker; however, officials say they were able to contain most of the spill.
