Chief Steve Dirksen to retire from Fargo Fire Department

Fargo Fire Chief Steve Dirksen is retiring. Dirksen tells KFGO News that he’s informed Mayor Tim Mahoney and City Administrator Mike Redlinger that his last day with the department will be July 4. Dirksen was hired in the fall of 2011. He came to Fargo from Sioux Falls where he’d been a battalion chief since 1994. Two longtime Fargo Fire Department employees were finalists for the job when Dirksen was hired. Dirksen replaced Chief Bruce Hoover who retired from the department after 36 years.
