Firefighters spent the night monitoring a grassfire that burned an estimated 4,000 acres about 13 miles north of Lemmon Wednesday evening. Lemmon Volunteer Fire Department spokesman Shane Penfield says the fire was 70% contained as of 8:45 p.m. CDT.
Penfield says multiple structures were lost. They are investigating what those structures were, but he says it appears none were inhabited homes. No injuries have been reported, but Penfield expects many livestock will be affected. The cause of the fire is unknown. Crews from 10 area departments and the North Dakota Forest Service responded to the fire.
