Wildfire in Croatan National Forest spreads to 950 acres

VIDEO: A wildfire in the Croatan National Forest has burned 950 acres and is 40 percent contained, according to the U.S. Forest Service. Areas around Swansboro, Belgrade, and Bear Creek have reported smoky conditions as a result. The fire is mainly in the Black Swamp Area. Black Swamp Road and the Black Swamp OHV Trail will be closed for public safety until further notice. Officials believe the fire started Sunday, Apr. 27, 2025 at around 12:30 p.m., yet still do not know itโ€™s cause. Multiple resources are being used to put the fire out with bucket drops also starting Sunday. Theyโ€™re currently fighting ground fires as thousand-hour fuels from previous hurricanes are continuing to ignite.
