Washington Fire-Rescue-EMS welcomes new therapy pup, Ash

VIDEO: Ash may look like any other cute furry friend, but he has an important job. Heโ€™s the newest Washington Fire-Rescue-EMS crew member, there to offer first responders a friendly face after stressful calls. โ€œWe see the worst days of peopleโ€™s lives multiple times every day. If this little fellow can be a sense of relief when firefighters or EMS workers get back to the station, itโ€™s gonna be money well spent for us,โ€ explained Chief R.M. Flowers. While it will take some money to get Ash certified as a therapy dog, it didnโ€™t cost the department a cent to get him. The fire department says the pup, thought to be a full-blooded silver lab, was donated by an anonymous community member. We asked how heโ€™s adjusting to the new role. โ€œI mean, if you look at him, you can already tell. Dogs donโ€™t really care how bad of a day youโ€™ve had. Theyโ€™re just happy to see you,โ€ said Battalion Chief Jeremy Wetherington. The department says it believes Ash is the first fire station therapy dog in Eastern Carolina.
