VIDEO: Ash may look like any other cute furry friend, but he has an important job. Heโs the newest Washington Fire-Rescue-EMS crew member, there to offer first responders a friendly face after stressful calls. โWe see the worst days of peopleโs lives multiple times every day. If this little fellow can be a sense of relief when firefighters or EMS workers get back to the station, itโs gonna be money well spent for us,โ explained Chief R.M. Flowers. While it will take some money to get Ash certified as a therapy dog, it didnโt cost the department a cent to get him. The fire department says the pup, thought to be a full-blooded silver lab, was donated by an anonymous community member. We asked how heโs adjusting to the new role. โI mean, if you look at him, you can already tell. Dogs donโt really care how bad of a day youโve had. Theyโre just happy to see you,โ said Battalion Chief Jeremy Wetherington. The department says it believes Ash is the first fire station therapy dog in Eastern Carolina.
