Raleigh fire crews battled back-to-back house fires on Sunday afternoon into Sunday night, officials said.
More than 70 firefighters were involved in both fires, with one in southeast Raleigh soon followed by a large blaze in north Raleigh, according to Raleigh Fire Battalion Chief Jason Patterson.
Both fires displaced residents of the homes, with the second, most serious blaze reported just after 5:30 p.m. at a home in the 6300 block of Lakeland Drive, near Shelley Lake and just off Lead Mine Road, Patterson said.
When crews arrived, heavy flames were already coming from the rear of the 1.5-story home, he said.
About 40 firefighters worked to get the blaze under control.
One person was at home when the fire broke out. That person managed to escape before crews arrived and there were no injuries, Patterson said.
