New museum will honor the history of Morehead City Fire Department

After eight years of fundraising and planning, a new museum honoring the history of the Morehead City Fire Department (MCFD) is moving closer to reality. According to city fire officials, the centerpiece of the museum will be one of the departmentโ€™s earliest fire trucks, a fully restored 1925 American LaFrance. The truck was only the second one purchased by MCFD and operated in the city from 1926 until the early 1960s. The story of how it eventually came back into the departmentโ€™s possession sounds like something penned by a Hollywood screenwriter. According to Morehead City Fire Chief Courtney Wade, a man named Jerry Sanders stumbled across the vehicle on a ranch he was working at in Georgia.
