VIDEO: New Hanover County firefighter David Morgan was just 33 years old when he noticed something wasnโt right. It was late October 2023, around Halloween, when Morgan figured he should make an appointment at Novant Healthโs Zimmer Cancer Institute in Wilmington. What he once thought was just a bruise wasnโt getting any better. A few months later, in February, he met with a doctor for a screening, completed an ultrasound and got his results. Morgan said he was surprised โ and scared โ when he got the news: he had testicular cancer. โ(When) most people think cancer, they think older people,โ he said. โSo it was definitely a surprise.โ Within a week, Morgan had surgery to remove the tumor.
