Meet the Super Scooper, Western North Carolina’s new tool to fight wildfires

This wildfire season has been an active one. In March, the North Carolina Forest Service said it responded to more than 1,600 wildfires across the state — double the number it fought during the same period in 2024. The two biggest remaining fires in North Carolina are in Polk County. While they’re still burning, both are almost fully contained. Now, 2 Wants to Know wants to tell you about a new tool to help fight wildfires in western North Carolina. Meet the Super Scooper. The United States Forest Service just moved several Super Scooper planes to North Carolina for the first time. According to the company operating the aircraft, the Super Scoopers are the only planes solely designed for aerial firefighting.
