Man arrested for stealing fire department truck after setting home ablaze in Jacksonville

A man was arrested after he allegedly set his own house ablaze in North Carolina this past weekend, then stole a fire department truck when crews arrived.

Sister-station WITN reported that the fire broke out along Nelson Drive in Jacksonville just after 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 22.

Once firefighters arrived, the news station said a Jacksonville Fire Department battalion command vehicle was stolen. An arrest warrant alleged that 31-year-old Anthony Michael Biz was the one who stole the truck, which was a 2019 Ford F-250 Super Duty.

The truck was reportedly later found at another house, about 30 minutes away in neighboring Pender County.

During the investigation, 31-year-old Anthony Michael Biz was arrested and charged with the following offenses:

  • Fraudulently burning a dwelling
  • Larceny of a motor vehicle
  • Possession of a stolen motor vehicle
  • Misdemeanor unauthorized burning

Records showed Biz was taken to the Onslow County jail and was initially denied bond by a magistrate before it was later set at $90,000 by a judge during a Nov. 24 court appearance.
