VIDEO: Jacksonville’s and Greenville’s fire departments both received a 1 out of 10 ISO rating, the highest score, from the state fire marshal. The score is a part of North Carolina Response Rating System and is based on a department’s ability and resources to respond to fires. It also impacts homeowner’s insurance in the area, with a higher score often meaning lower premiums. New Bern’s fire department also stayed the same at a two this year. Kinston’s and Morehead City’s most recent inspections have them at two (2023) and a three (2022). The inspection typically happens every four to five years. Jacksonville Fire Chief Tee Tallman said the department’s original goal was to become a stronger two and that there were several things they did to improve their score.
