For several years, the Northeast Guilford Fire Department has teamed up with Monticello-Brown Summit Elementary School to enhance students’ learning experience beyond the classroom. From โFirefighter Read Aloudsโ and โLunch Buddiesโ to helping kids safely into their cars during โFirefighter Fridays,โ the partnership has become a beloved part of school life. Their latest initiative? A reading challenge for third gradersโwith some exciting rewards. Valencia Lylesโ third-grade class took top honors, clocking an impressive 10,724 minutes of reading. The class celebrated their victory with a well-earned pizza party on Thursday. Third grader Jacob Trevino-Vazquez earned special recognition as the top individual reader, logging a remarkable 3,005 minutes. His reward? A ride to school in a fire truck.
