Firefighter hurt while battling Kill Devil Hills house fire

Town officials say a Kill Devil Hills firefighter was hurt while battling a house fire Sunday. The Kill Devil Hills Fire Department says crews were called to a house fire in the 300 block of West Arch Street around 3 p.m. Sunday. Officials say the fire started on the front deck of the home and spread inside, causing significant fire and water damage. The ground floor of the home suffered extensive smoke and water damage, and crews worked to contain the fire to the second floor. Everyone living in the home was safely evacuated, according to officials. One firefighter was injured while containing the flames and was taken to Outer Banks Health Hospital. Officials say crews from Colington and Kitty Hawk also helped fight the fire. The Kill Devil Hills Police Department and Dare County EMS were also on the scene.
