While responding to a fire call on Halibut Street Wednesday afternoon, a firefighter was injured after falling 21 feet to the ground. According to Vander Fire Chief Richard Bradshaw, the fall happened at a house on Halibut Street when the Vander Fire Department was called after lightning struck the house. Chief Bradshaw said when teams arrived, crews began an investigation of the home when a strong odor was smelled. The team began to investigate the attic where they found a fire had started. Chief Bradshaw said the firefighter fell in the process of fighting the fire. According to the chief, the firefighter fell through the sheetrock walls of the attic and then 21 feet to the floor of the home in full gear. The chief said the home had cathedral style vaulted ceilings, which is the reason for the height.
