Family honors killed junior firefighter with back-to-school drive in Richmond County

VIDEO: As students across Richmond County prepare for the new school year, the family of a 16-year-old junior firefighter killed in June is channeling their grief into continuing his legacy of service through a community back-to-school drive. Gabriel Ennis was shot and killed at a home near Ellerbe on June 22, according to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office. A 17-year-old Richmond Senior High School student has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with his death and is being held without bond in juvenile custody. The suspect, who has not been named due to their age, turned themselves in to authorities. Now, as families gather school supplies for the upcoming year, Gabriel’s family is organizing a drive to help local students โ€” a mission they say reflects the servant’s heart their son was known for. “He was all for children and all for people, he never met a stranger and loved everyone,” Jessica Ennis, Gabriel’s mother, said.
