Family displaced, 2 cats killed after Concord house catches fire twice

A family was displaced from their home Saturday night after a fire broke out, killing two pet cats despite a quick response from firefighters.

The Concord Fire Department responded to the 190 block of Fryling Avenue SW at 7:07 p.m. and arrived within four minutes to find smoke coming from the single-story home, according to the city of Concord. Firefighters brought the fire under control within 13 minutes.

The residents were home when the fire started but safely evacuated along with their two dogs. Firefighters found the family’s two cats dead inside the home, the city said.

Hours later, the fire reignited. Crews were called back to the home at 4:44 a.m. Sunday and found smoke and flames showing from the house. Firefighters brought the fire under control within 16 minutes.

The Concord Police Department and Cabarrus County EMS assisted at the scene.
