EMS provider in New Hanover County launches new Prehospital Blood Program

VIDEO: A new program aimed at saving lives in the community was launched this month. Novant Health New Hanover EMS has launched its new Prehospital Blood Program. This will allow first responders to administer blood transfusions in the field, whereas before patients would have to wait until they made it to the emergency room. Getting much-needed blood 20 to 25 minutes later is the difference between life or death. โ€œWeโ€™re able to start that resuscitation process early on and have better outcomes with patients and the studies are showing it, hands down the studies are showing that itโ€™s improving patient outcomes, less hospital time stay, less time stayed in the ICU, just better outcomes as a whole,โ€ Novant Administrator Division Chief of EMS Julius McAdams said.
