Electric vehicle catches fire in south Charlotte neighborhood

An electric vehicle caught fire at a south Charlotte house early Monday morning, prompting a large response from emergency crews. The car started burning on Normans Landing Drive in the Hamilton Lakes neighborhood around 1:30 a.m. A fire engine and hazardous materials truck were brought out by the Charlotte Fire Department, and at least three Charlotte-Mecklenburg police cars responded to the home. Firefighters appeared to have contained the fire to a small area. Officials at the house said that the vehicle was electric, but did not specifically confirm what type it was, despite radio scanner traffic suggesting it was a Tesla. There was no word on if anyone was hurt in Monday morningโ€™s fire.
