City of Newton breaks ground on new fire station

PHOTOS: The City of Newton broke ground on a new 13,500-square-foot facility that will eventually serve as Fire Station 3 in the Startown community.

Located at 2511 West NC 10 Highway, the new construction will help improve public safety in western Newton and nearby rural areas. The siteโ€™s location also allows room for expansion in the future.

New features at Fire Station 3 will include four apparatus bays to house modern firefighting equipment, living quarters designed for 24-hour staffing, and dedicated workspaces and support areas for firefighters.

City council approved the purchase of the site back in March 2024. The acquisition was finalized in April 2024. โ€œTodayโ€™s groundbreaking is more than just a construction milestone,โ€ said Newton Mayor Jerry T. Hodge during the ceremony.

โ€œItโ€™s a symbol of our communityโ€™s progress, our commitment to public safety, and our dedication to planning for a stronger, safer future in Newton. We look forward to watching this station rise from the ground and become a proud asset for our city.โ€
