VIDEO: Apartments have been seriously damaged after a fire broke out early Tuesday morning in east Charlotte. It happened on English Hills Drive, not far from the intersection of East W.T. Harris Boulevard and Albemarle Road. Fire crews first responded shortly after 2:30 a.m. and saw heavy fire showing from the second and third floors. Firefighters quickly forced entry into multiple units to conduct searches for anyone trapped, while other crews worked to control the flames. All crews at one point had to evacuate the building and monitor potential collapse zones. Firefighters re-entered the building shortly after, and more crews were called to the scene. The fire was finally brought under control at 4:22 a.m. “I opened my front door, and there’s a fire truck,” Brianna Peoples said. “I was asleep, we were both asleep. It was very quiet, I woke up, I was smelling fumes. I just woke up because of what was in the air.”
