Ulster County firefighter program celebrates 62 graduates

Ulster County Fire Services hosted a graduation on Tuesday, where 62 men and women celebrated finishing their year-long basic firefighter training. Two first responders were highlighted during the ceremony for their heroic acts over the last year. During the ceremony, Walker Valley Fire Chief Jim Greer was recognized with a plaque for saving Charlotte Bean during a Cragsmoor house fire during Memorial Day weekend. Also recognized was Adam Watson of the Rosendale Fire Department after he saved an autistic teen from the swift-moving Rondout Creek in August. “Our volunteer firefighters represent the very best of Ulster County — people who step forward with great courage, discipline, and professionalism to protect us and keep us safe,” said Ulster County Executive Jen Metzger. “Completing this training is a major achievement, and these graduates have gone above and beyond, proving they’re ready to answer the call.”
