Tully firefighters, medics take 200th call of year, highest in decade

VIDEO/PHOTOS: Tully firefighters and medics celebrated a significant achievement on Dec. 26, reaching their 200th fire and rescue call of the year.

The milestone marks the highest number of calls in over a decade.

The volunteers responded to a variety of emergencies throughout the year, from brush fires to car crashes โ€” and they expect to hear many more by New Yearโ€™s Eve, Joe Nemier, the assistant fire chief, said.

โ€œWeโ€™re showing the community that weโ€™re out there,โ€ Nemier said. โ€œWeโ€™re putting forth our efforts, weโ€™re dedicated and weโ€™ve got a great team of volunteers and weโ€™re here to help everybody.โ€

This year has presented an uptick in accidents and vehicle collisions.

But despite the challenges, the volunteer firefighters have remained dedicated. Nemier remarked on the cohesive efforts of the team, calling the career staff โ€œphenomenal.โ€
