Third-alarm fire destroys warehouse in Wyoming County

VIDEO/PHOTOS: The cause of a third-alarm fire Wednesday at a warehouse in Wyoming County is under investigation.

An employee at Reisdorf Bros Inc., a family-owned feed mill and farm supply store on Perry Road in Sheldon, spotted a fire on the property around 3:30 a.m., according to Bill Streicher, the county’s fire coordinator.

“(The) employee was reporting to work as he does every day, and he came around the corner, and you could see it blowing in the sky,” Streicher said. “He knew something was up.”

Crews from 14 fire departments responded to the scene, finding a factory building completely engulfed in flames, according to Kyle Meyer, first assistant chief of the North Java Fire Company.

“It’s just a wide-open building with multiple feed agents for mixing the feed, minerals, and stuff like that,” Meyer said.

Seven delivery trucks carrying gallons of diesel fuel were inside the building at the time, prompting crews to call the Wyoming County Hazmat Team to the scene, Streicher said.
