Stittville Fire Department Celebrates 100 Years of Service

The Stittville Volunteer Fire Department celebrated 100 years of service to the community with a gathering at Firemen’s Field. Members and friends gathered to enjoy food, drinks and bounce houses to celebrate. “It’s hard to put into words. There were a lot of people ahead of us who had a vision of what this department could look like, and we’re just doing our best to carry it on,” said Stittville Chief Bill Sutherland. Department members assembled a display of uniforms, remembering those who served. The department dedicated the Firemen’s Field to the late former Chief Neil โ€œSudsโ€ Sutherland, who passed away in 2022. Sutherland served the department for 57 years, including 20 years as chief. “He was a very respectable man, and he led us in the right direction, it’s very deserving that the field is named in his honor,” added Chief Bill Sutherland.
