Two people are dead and a third is hospitalized after an early morning fire in Newton Falls.
Firefighters were called to battle a blaze at a single-family home at 15 Overlook Avenue just before 6 a.m. Tuesday morning.
Officials say two adults died in the fire.
State police said a third person, 57-year-old Shelly Carlisle of Oswegatchie, was able to escape the burning home.
They said she suffered severe burns, was rushed to Canton-Potsdam Hospital, and later transferred to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, where she is in critical condition.
Police did not release the names of the two who died.
According to neighbors, a father and his adult son were killed in the blaze, and the mother was injured.
Kevin Woodcock lives next door. “Good people. They deserved a better chance than that,” he said. Woodcock was one of the first to try to help the family during the fire by grabbing his garden hose.
