Massive fire burns old Rochester building, crews battle flames for nearly 8 hours

VIDEOS: Crews worked on a fire at an abandoned warehouse in Rochester for nearly 8 hours, that started Thursday night. A massive fire broke out at the former Tent City building on the city’s west side, near the corner of Lyell and Dewey Avenues, around 10:30 p.m. on Thursday. The area is still shut down. News10NBC First Alert live camera network caught flames shooting into the sky, followed by a huge plume of smoke. Officials say the building was under construction. Crews say they called a fifth alarm due to the size and magnitude of the flames, and several walls started to collapse. There haven’t been any reports of serious injuries, but fire officials say a few neighboring homes were damaged on the outside due to the extreme heat from the blaze. Officials say one firefighter got dizzy and was treated at the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
