Man rescued after falling 150 feet into a vacant cement tower in Catskill

VIDEO: Crews were dispatched to a technical rescue in Catskill late Friday night for a man that had fallen several stories in a cement tower. The Catskill Fire Department responded to the abandoned Leigh Cement Plant on State Route 9W around 11 p.m. Friday. The Cedar Grove Fire Company also responded and said firefighters at first had difficulty finding the victim. Crews eventually located the man about 120 feet down an abandoned concrete silo through a 3 by 3-foot opening. Officials estimate he fell approximately 150 feet. EMS at first evaluated his injuries from above before beginning the rescue. Firefighters then began using a rope system using a terradapter with a main and belay system. Crews put the man into a harness and brought him to the top of the tower. Officials said this took about 15 minutes. The man was taken to Albany Medical Center with minor injuries.
