VIDEOS: One person was found dead in the ruins of an apartment building destroyed by a fire in Rome early Tuesday morning.
The Rome Fire Chief confirms to NewsChannel 9 the victim appears to be an elderly man.
The man was one of two people initially unaccounted for. The other person was found safe.
In addition to the fatality, a woman was taken to the hospital with serious injuries from burns.
NewsChannel 9 obtained video of the large flames and smoke. Carla Smithling, a neighbor who lives nearby, told NewsChannel 9 the videos were taken around 5:30 a.m. on Dec. 9.
The Oneida County Sheriffโs Office said Rome-Oriskany Road was closed between Rome-Westmoreland Road and Monument Road.
